Federal Workers Organize No Kings Rally and Food Drive

For Immediate Release

Background:

Starting at 9:30 AM, 27 UNIHTED & NIH Vigils will host a No Kings Rally and food drive to draw attention to the attacks on our country's research infrastructure and to help communities impacted by the federal layoffs and the partial government shutdown on Saturday March 28th 2026, at the Medical Center Metro in Bethesda Maryland. Invited speakers include a lymphoma survivor and advocate, NIH grantees and scientists, legislators, and NIH and FEMA workers in their personal capacities. The band ALLSTRIKE will perform.

Former and current federal employees and the broader American public face substantially greater suffering as the devaluing and dismantling of federal agencies and public services continue.

“As former federal employees we know the struggles our colleagues have faced since the layoffs and the dire situation faced by employees going without a paycheck during the partial shutdown,” said Anna Culbertson, co-founder of 27 UNIHTED and a former probationary employee from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.  “The food drive will help them tangibly, and in combination with the rally, will draw attention to the issues we are all facing."

Schedule:

  • 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM Food drop-off begins

  • 10:00AM - 10:20 AM welcome and music from ALLSTRIKE

  • 10:20 AM-11:30 AM speakers
