Tell us about your business.

“I provide communications services for health and science organizations and businesses, including graphic and web design, copyediting, science writing, and strategy development. My current clients include small global health nonprofits and regulatory affairs consultancies.”

What inspired you to start your business?

“I was laid off during my maternity leave in early 2024, and while I shifted my main focus on my new job of being a mother, I wanted to be able to continue to provide my experience and services to those who may need it and to support my family. Starting my business has helped me be able to maintain and build upon professional relationships I’ve grown, while also branching out to new groups and learning new skills to help broader audiences.”

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.

“I have a background in biotechnology, virology, and science writing, but also a passion for design and illustration and strong interest in Japanese language and culture. Throughout my career I’ve had opportunities to hone and sometimes converge these skills and experiences (including most recently working as a global health communications expert for a US-Japan nonprofit), to where I now want to use my health and science communications experience to help global health and biopharma organizations improve their communications to be effective, accessible, and culturally competent.”

What was your role at NIH?

“I worked as a scientific information analyst on the NIH Research, Condition, and Disease Categorization (RCDC) program from 2016 to 2018. I went into the nonprofit space and returned to NIH to work as a Health Communications Specialist at NIAID during the height of the pandemic from 2020 to 2021.”

How has your NIH experience influenced your business journey?

“My NIH experience helped me realize that there are more opportunities to help in the health and science space outside of just wet lab work. There are so many opportunities to help move the needle on vital health and science efforts, big and small.”

What is something you're proud of or excited about right now?

“I’m proud of my work as a mother, how I was able to shift the passion and focus that I wanted to use for full time advocacy work to doing my best to raise my daughter. I’m also proud of being able to do some consultancy work even while doing this full time mom job! I’m excited about the prospect of growing my business or getting more side work if a full-time job still won’t come around, so I can continue providing for my family where I can.”
